ultimate Why behind everything we do: Jesus

  • We believe that in the beginning, God created everything, and it was very good. (Genesis 1:1, 31)

  • God also created people to be His children and to worship Him. (Isaiah 43:7, 21)

  • Instead of trusting God, people sinned, which means they chose to trust themselves and turn away from God instead of loving and obeying Him. (Genesis 3)

  • God is holy, which means He is good and perfect in every way. (Isaiah 6:3)

  • Because God is perfect, we have to be perfect to be in a relationship with Him. (Matthew 5:48)

  • When we sin, it separates us from God (Isaiah 59:2). Just like disobeying your teacher or breaking the law deserves a punishment, sin deserves a punishment too. That punishment is death. (Romans 6:23)

  • Every person that has ever lived has chosen to turn away from God, so every person deserves to die and be separated from God forever. (Romans 3:23, 5:12)

If that were the end of the story, it would be very bad news!

  • But God made a way for us to be with Him again and to live forever with Him by sending His own son, Jesus, down to earth to save us. (Romans 5:8, 2 Corinthians 5:21)

  • Jesus lived the sinless life we could never live by loving and obeying God perfectly. (Hebrews 4:15)

  • Then Jesus took our punishment of death by dying on a cross. (1 Peter 2:24)

  • He was stronger than the power of sin and death, so three days after He died, He came to life again. (Romans 6:9)

  • Now, because of what Jesus has done, we have a chance to have a relationship with God. Through Jesus, we can be adopted into God’s family. (John 1:12-13, Romans 8:14-17)

  • When we believe in this good news and turn away from our sin, God does something amazing: He gives us His Spirit to work in us and make us look more like Him. (Acts 2:38, John 14:26)

  • We then get to be a part of God’s great mission to spread the Good News of Jesus to all people. (Acts 1:8)

  • Then, when we die, we will go to live with God and worship Him forever! (Revelation 7:9-17, 1 John 5:11)

This is the good news of Jesus Christ

And this is the reason we do everything we do at BigHouse. We used to be trapped in sin and brokenness, but then God rescued each of us and gave us life and joy in Him! Because God’s love has changed our lives, we want to tell others about Him and show them the love that He has shown us! We believe all followers of Jesus are called to love and serve others for God’s glory. Here at BigHouse, we believe God has specifically called us to love, serve, and share the good news of Jesus with foster and adoptive families. To learn more about how we do that, check out our Events and Programs pages!
